A Film by CALYPSO CRAGG
When former rising actress Catherine is offered a major meeting for a new Wuthering Heights adaptation, she sees a chance to finally reclaim her career. But alone in her flat, old fears and buried insecurities surface, pushing her into an intense private struggle as the moment draws closer.
Catherine, an actress desperate for a win, lands a high-stakes meeting for a bold new Wuthering Heights adaptation. Alone in her flat, determination slips into spiralling self-doubt as she struggles to connect with the material. By the time the meeting arrives, the pressure, the waiting, and her own insecurities collide. Big Break follows one woman’s private fight with expectation, ambition, and the fear that even her best effort might not be enough.
Director’s Statement
“This film isn’t about a grand breakthrough. It is about the reality that sometimes you prepare, you push through the difficult parts, you finally connect with the material, and life still gets in the way. Catherine spends days wrestling with her scene. She cannot learn the lines, she cannot find the character, and then suddenly it all falls into place. She feels ready. She feels present. And when the moment finally arrives, everything unravels. She forgets the lines. The director talks over her. The table creaks. The screen freezes. The big moment she has built up is interrupted by real life, the parts you cannot control or predict.
That is the truth at the centre of the story. You can do everything right and still watch the moment fall apart.
Behind that is the ongoing grind: the waiting, the hope, the silence, the disappointment, the need to get back up and try again. This experience is not limited to actors. Anyone who has pursued something and been knocked down understands it.
Big Break is about that cycle. The preparation, the hope, the fall, and the choice to stand up again.”
